Mrs. Stigliano's 4s Class News
April 30th - May 3rd 2024
Reminder: Conferences this Wednesday, May 1st
Why did the girl toss a stick of butter? She wanted to see a butterfly.
The children are observing the caterpillars as they grow, boy is it fast. It takes approximately 10 days until they change into a chrysalis. 🐛🦋
Spring fever has come and the children have such energy and excitement. The collaboration and teamwork is wonderful to witness. It is so nice to watch the children play.
The children will be given the opportunity to play with plastic bugs, learning to identify the type of insect. There will be magnifying glasses and containers to enlarge our specimens. The children will learn the word arachnid, which is the term for the spider family. 🕷️ Spiders are not insects, they have 8 legs. Insects have 6 legs. We will discuss, discover and explore the differences.
Words that will be introduced are metamorphous, chrysalis, and nutrients.
Some stories I will read to the children are:
This week the children will assemble a fuzzy caterpillar and design a symmetrical butterfly. We will discuss and explore symmetry in our classroom.
The children are practicing using their words in kind, helpful and respectful ways. Perhaps more importantly we are working on listening to one another. We are also emphasizing using more words in a sentence when speaking, so that the listener better understands what they want or are explaining. It’s wonderful to see their growth and development.
Additional stories I will read are:
The children will make a Rorschach print. Demonstrating symmetry and discussing what they see. We all see things differently, yet also the same. They will have the opportunity to play with a scale and explore balance.
We will review our Five Senses, see, hear, smell, taste and touch.
